Playing a key part in shaping the strategic direction of the business through delivering high quality, insightful and actionable analytics, the Data Scientist will partner with the business to manage and develop end-to-end solutions to key operational, commercial and marketing challenges across both the Currys PCWorld and Carphone Warehouse brands.

The Data Scientist, will be expected to provide thought leadership, guidance and influence within the business in terms of how to translate a wide range of commercial and operational problems into an analytical framework to understand the key drivers of change. This will involve leveraging advanced analytics to improve effectiveness of critical business decisions and communicate these findings concisely and effectively with the wider business.

 

The Role/Responsibilities

Reporting into the Head of Decision Sciences, the role will support a mixture of longer term projects and shorter term business queries. Offering a mix of analytical and advisory support to the business these projects will cover a wide range of areas including operations, marketing, pricing, promotions, ranging and property.

Past engagements supported by the team include

  • Leading measurement of existing marketing and commercial performance and help shape future activity; Identification of key drivers of demand
  • Provision of analytics support for key strategic projects
  • Leverage customer data to help optimise short-term trading and to shape longer-term strategic plans
  • Provide insight and support for marketing teams (e.g. CRM, Retail Marketing, Brand Comms) and wider business (e.g. Commercial, Property, Space, Retail, Business Change)
  • Guide and direct exploitation of pricing and ranging data within Marketing
  • Identify opportunities to drive better targeting for the Campaign team to deliver business and marketing objectives, including development of customer segmentations
  • Development of Churn Models and scoring for retention offers

 

Experience & Desired Qualifications

 

  • 4 + years of relevant work experience – such as within Retail / Telco consulting, Commercial Finance / Analytics – which includes hands on experience in within data and customer analytics and modelling
  • Strong understanding of analytical methods, processes and platforms and how to leverage them
  • Bachelors / Masters Degree;
  • PhD / MBA / MSc in Data Science / Professional qualifications (ACA, CIMA, ACII) beneficial
