Make amazing happen

Deliver outstanding customer service as a Home Appliance Installer or Engineer

Why Dixons Carphone?

Dixons Carphone group is Retail Week’s Retailer of the Year and Europe’s largest specialist electrical, telecommunications and services retailer, with £10bn in annual sales. We’re a big business, which means that if you join us as a Knowhow Installer or Engineer, you certainly won’t be a driver who’s stuck doing the same thing day in and day out.

You’ll do more. You’ll drive, deliver, install and repair a huge number of different products, from white goods like washing machines and fridges right the way through to gas cookers and home cinema systems. And you’ll get more for doing it – more skills, more experience and more interaction with customers.

Customer Service Centres

Joining our KnowHow CSC – made up of 1600 colleagues in 16 Customer Services Centres across the country – you’ll be determined to go further for our customers. Prepared for anything and ready for change, you’ll create great experiences, whether it’s answering queries, providing perfect tech solution, repairing hardware, or setting up a customer’s brand new product.

Our Drivers, Installers and Engineers are the first line of our service offering, constantly striving to deliver the highest level of customer service whilst also building on their strong technical expertise, for the benefit of the customer.

Our colleagues enter three million homes a year, delivering a wide range of Electrical, White Goods and Gas installation services. So, you’ll find roles at various levels within each CSC, from Drivers and Installation Experts, to Home Appliance Repair Engineers through to First Line Managers and CSC Site Managers.

The roles

As a Home Delivery and Installation Technician, you’ll do your best to make sure our customers have a fantastic service experience in the comfort of their own homes. Not only will you deliver exactly the right white goods at exactly the right time, you’ll also make sure they’re safely installed and in perfect working condition. And you’ll love every second of it.

To do it, you’ll need to be more than a great driver – you’ll need to be totally committed to customer service. And that goes further than a smile at the door. You’ll need to be able to explain the installation process and offer useful maintenance advice while handling white goods safely and carefully to avoid damage. If you don’t have installation experience in areas like gas and electrics, don’t worry – you’ll be working alongside a qualified Engineer who’ll be happy to show you the ropes. We take safety very seriously.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

- A full car licence (category B) with no more than 6 points
- A licence to drive a 7.5t vehicle
- A Driver CPC
- Stock handling experience
- Some technical product knowledge
- Great people skills

Career Pathway

Not everyone’s path to becoming a Home Delivery and Instillation Technician will be the same. But whatever your route into the role, you’ll always have the opportunity to progress and get more from your career – much more.

Joining us without a driving license is the first route into the role, and will see you expertly install electrical goods, with the opportunity to learn more.

After you gain your 3.5-ton license, you’ll progress to the next stage of your career. And, as you gain in confidence, you’ll add hard wiring to your knowledge tool belt.

Once you’ve got your 7.5-ton license, you’ll be in the third stage of your career pathway – bringing all your expertise with you.

Some people just like to make things right. And joining us as a Knowhow White Goods Engineer, you’ll be one of them. As well as driving to visit customers in their homes, you’ll use your expert knowledge to repair and install a range of different gas and home appliances and white goods – delivering safe, excellent service with a smile.

We take the customer experience seriously; so you’ll need the technical knowledge and experience to carry out high quality, long lasting repairs and installations. Testing, diagnosing, fixing and installing – you’ll do it all with a smile, using your excellent communication skills to explain the problem (and dish out maintenance advice). Aside from our customers, you’ll work closely with all sorts of different people across home services, so you’ll also need to enjoy working as part of a team.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

- ACS qualification
- CCN1 – Essential Gas Safety Domestic
- CKR1 – Gas Cookers and Ranges
- Experience working with and installing white goods or gas home appliances
- Proof of a current or previous Gas Safety registration
- Stock handling experience
- A full, current driving licence
- Experience driving commercial vehicles

Career Pathway

Your role as White Goods Engineer will not only offer great variety, it will also give you the opportunity to progress, learn more and, ultimately, get more.

Initially, the role will see you installing electrical goods, including smart TVs and cookers. As you take your career to the next stage, you’ll begin to expertly repair electrical products, too. After more excellent training, and as you grow in confidence, you’ll become a champion in repairing white goods.

With your increasing knowhow, you’ll soon install gas appliances as well. And in the fifth stage of your career pathway, there won’t be much you can’t fix or install. From mending white goods to hard wiring electrical cookers – you’ll know more than you ever thought possible.
