At Dixons Carphone we understand that having the chance to experience new opportunities helps our colleagues learn, broaden their horizons, and gives all of us a chance to engage with good causes. Not only does that help the organisation as a whole, but it also allows each of us to feel truly a part of what we want to achieve.

As part of this commitment, we’ve teamed up with Project Blupoint and Dr. Mike Santer, (Technology Adviser to the Bill Gates Foundation) to support the implementation of the amazing Blupoint technology.

If you haven’t heard about Blupoint, it’s a device and solution to allow communities total access to curated content – on any phone. It runs on solar-power and transmits educational content to your handset using Wi-Fi, FM Radio or Bluetooth. Most importantly, it’s got the power to change lives for the better!

Our very own tech-guru Clare Hardy, who’s an Apple Engineer, is really excited to be working with life-changing technology: “I repair and service the latest technology on a daily basis and I think it’s fantastic that technology can be used to dramatically transform the lives of others. So when I heard about Bluepoint – I just wanted to know all about the technology and how it works. I am really excited to see just how much BluPoint can aid the education system and as a result, the future prospects of the children there.”

As part of our partnership, ten Blupoint ambassadors from Dixons Carphone will be flying out to South Africa to help implement this life-changing technology. Colleagues from all corners of the business are playing their part in supporting the initiative – from head office, our contact centres and in-store. Skill sets range from HR, Project Management, Store Management and the team even has their own videographer, designer and Business Solutions Manager.

We’re not just there to help integrate the technology – we’ll also monitor progress later in the year. It really shows the commitment Dixons Carphone has to ensure technology enriches the lives of everyone who has access to it.

It goes without saying that the first team to fly out is excited! Rebecca, Simon, Joe, Emma and Hamid have all been completing various projects to support the trip – including designing a logo, printing t-shirts, ensuring they’re all connected with sim cards from iD and even getting a full page spread in the Dixons Carphone Connected magazine.

Emma, the team’s Project Manager sums up the group’s feelings perfectly: “As part of the Blupoint team, I look forward to working on something that could greatly improve the lives of children, provide them with free access to educational content and help them achieve their potential.

“We’re looking forward to applying the skills we use in our everyday jobs to effectively deploy the product in South Africa and respond to some very different challenges from what we normally experience in the UK!”

While we are over in South Africa, as ambassadors, we aim to be the eyes and ears of Dixons Carphone and can’t wait to tell our colleagues and the rest of the world our story. So keep your eyes peeled for further updates of our amazing journey!
