DESCRIPTION

The Category Development manager role is a core component of the category management function within the commercial team. Reporting to the Head of Category and working alongside the category managers, this person will play a key role in helping to build, plan and execute the customer and commercial strategy. The role will ensure the category are using relevant customer data and insight in decision making relating to ranging, promotions and supplier planning. This person will work directly with the category and suppliers to land key initiatives across channels, and will help the category deliver their accountabilities within core commercial processes – including ranging, events and promotions and weekly trading routines.

 

You will:

  • Support the category in landing all major initiatives, including new product launches, new merchandising solutions and changes to the customer journey online and in-store, liaising with relevant supporting departments to deliver right first time
  • Work with suppliers to land all jointly planned initiatives in all channels – including sponsored marketing, fixtures and demonstration in store and colleague training
  • Be the champion for delivering great customer experiences in all channels, challenging both the category team and supporting functions to improve the experience for customers
  • Bring appropriate analytics and insight from the online and customer team to support decision making related to day to day trading, events and promotions and range changes to ensure the category are making relevant data driven decisions and plans
  • Ensure the category team deliver against deliverables and actions set out in the RACI for Events and Promotions planning, range changes and in-season trading meetings
  • Work with the Senior E-commerce Manager to develop and manage category KPI dashboard and reporting metrics ensuring timely and accurate communication of performance vs targets.
  • Use product level data (page views, conversion, traffic sources, pricing, availability) on and offsite to drive performance insights
  • Be the go to person from all parts of the business to coordinate the customer experience activities that need to be developed.
  • Work with peer group to lead cross-functional delivery for all things related to customer journey for your Head of Category

 

You will need:

  • Some Commercial trading or product marketing experience working within an FMCG/Fashion or Hard Goods fast paced retailer, with knowledge and experience of:
  • Experience with Product Marketing
  • Experience in Commercial trading
  • Some knowledge of online trading and performance
  • Experience of using data & analytics to understand range development, services proposition, and customer experience. 
  • Experience of both the Electricals market and products.
  • Experience using Business Objects
