Data Engineer - Graduate/Entry level

Job Number: 9661

Location: Dixons Carphone, Acton Support Centre (123)

Contract: Full Time / Permanent

Data Engineer

The role is within the eCommerce Insight Team, whose remit is analysis and modelling with a focus on Currys PCW eCommerce data. The data sources analysed are primarily clickstream web analytic data (Adobe Analytics) and enterprise business intelligence data.

The role sits within the data science workstream, which is accountable for analysis of granular clickstream data: joining to other data sources to generate new datasets, propensity scoring to predict visitor behaviour probabilities, clustering and forecasting. The Data Engineer will build the processes that allow such analysis to be productionised and output to channels which can modify the customer experience.

This will be done through creation of data flows to productionise creation of analytic data sets, processes to automate mathematical modelling and scoring of user behaviours and integrations with third party eCommerce tools such as Adobe Target, Krux Data Management Platform and our Single Customer View. Much of this work will be done using two tools: natively within Google Cloud Platform and within the third-party application Syntasa.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically-minded individual to build highly valued data engineering skills in an exciting and innovative part of a fast moving, ever evolving multichannel retail business.

You will:

  • Create processes to productionise analytical data sets, scheduling population of tables built from SQL queries based the cadence of incoming data sources.
  • Create workflows to automate mathematical modelling built by the team’s Data Scientists. This will include creating processes to re-train modelling on a regular cadence and to score user behaviours based on these models at the latency at which user data is available (either in batch or in real time).
  • Create output connectors to generate APIs from model output tables which third party tools can call to modify the user experience.
  • Work with teams that manage third party tools such as Adobe Target, Krux Data Management Platform and our Single Customer View to ensure that output connectors can integrate with these platforms.
  • Become a specialist in the data engineering capabilities within third party tool, Syntasa, to build these workflows, model productionisation and generation of output connectors.
  • Use Google Cloud Platform products to natively perform tasks which cannot be performed within Syntasa. Become a specialist in Data Engineering capabilities of GCP to advance the output we can generate.

You will need:

  • Practical experience of commonly used computer coding languages: Java, SQL and Python
  • Experience using ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) skills
  • Knowledge of data science modelling techniques and processes
  • Experience working with eCommerce data sets and use cases
  • Experience working within Google Cloud Platform
  • To be educated to degree level in a STEM subject including an element of computer programming
