Commercial Development Manager - Carphone Warehouse

The role is responsible for supporting delivery of the future Carphone Warehouse business strategy and ensuring that our strategic initiatives return on the investment we make. Working closely with the analytics team, commercial functions, strategy, business change and finance, this person will help inform future priorities, risks and opportunities.

This person will support categories in working across functions to deliver business cases, schedule workload and deliver ROI for future growth initiatives. The person will also represent the commercial team in cross category and cross business projects.  The role will be responsible for various Carphone Warehouse team development activities including co-ordination of the Make a Difference working group and manging team away days.  The commercial development team will also continuously monitor customer and market trends, to help provide insight on new opportunities for in year growth, including new customer segments, new ways of selling and ways of optimising commercial benefit.


You will:

  • Support the Director of Strategy and Analytics in providing insight in building 3/5 year plans
  • Support categories to develop in year initiatives to take maximum advantage of new opportunities with customer segments or in growing parts of the market
  • Provide timely updates on the progress of initiatives (exec standard comms)
  • Be responsible for delivery of the CPW initiative portfolio, including capex and opex requests. This person will support categories in working across functions to deliver business cases, schedule workload and deliver ROI.
  • Feed into the commercial planning processes on a quarterly basis, to ensure key initiatives are captured as priorities during the quarter in which they land,
  • Support the integration and future growth of key long term UK strategic initiatives within the Carphone business, including services, Multiplay and Pin Point/Assisted Sales development
  • Understand the value drivers of the business and the mechanics behind how we drive revenue, margin and market share.
  • Maintain an awareness of external factors (including competitors, industry and market developments) which impact the business.
  • Work collaboratively through matrix-management across the entire business to support the senior leaders to help drive our commercial objectives. 

You will need:

  • To be educated to degree level
  • To have project management qualifications (Desirable)
  • Strong proficiency of Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel packages
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Ability to process complex information
  • Skills in planning and organisation, negotiation and influencing & communication
