Our Commercial team at Carphone Warehouse are looking for a Category Development Manager to support longer term strategic planning within the Commercial Category teams ensuring customers and colleagues are at the heart of everything we do. Drive innovation in thinking through the development of new propositions and through the creation of an overarching commercial trading strategy.

The ideal candidate will take commercial ownership of the in-store customer journey for all categories with oversight of any projects that touch in store space or merchandising to ensure they are joined up and aligned to commercial priorities

You will:

  • Work with category and channel teams to lead the development of new propositions & offers and, once launched, embed into BAU process (e.g. Refer a Friend, credit)
  • Support the category teams with the creation of their individual category strategies and then build them into an overarching commercial trading strategy. Work with Commercial Strategy team to provide Commercial/trading input into development of 3 year plan
  • Support the category teams to identify, define & scope new initiatives as part of budget/3YP process and build business cases if capex/opex is required
  • Provide input into Quarterly Planning process (including scoping & campaign planning) based on knowledge of customer and market trends, analysis of previous year’s performance and understanding of commercial strategy & priorities
  • Lead/co-ordinate all projects that impact on store space & merchandising on behalf of Commercial – balancing customer & colleague feedback, commercial agreements & strategic priorities. Work with relevant teams to provide “one version of the truth” regarding all in-store projects and store space (e.g. supplier branded bays, category POS & merchandising etc).
  • Act as a main point of contact for the Formats/Property/Space Planning team for any ad-hoc queries.
  • Support the category teams to develop the in-store customer journey for their category.

You will need:

  • Category management/trading/marketing experience in FMCG/electricals or related retail business
  • Knowledge or experience of the Mobile Phone market
  • Experience of project management and managing cross-functional teams
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel & PowerPoint
  • Ability to understand and interpret customer and colleague insight
  • Self-starter mind-set and tenacity to drive the vision and goals of the business forward
  • Ambitious and energetic – with the drive to sustainably growth the business and handle a fast paced working environment
  • To be confident in presenting and influencing internal and external stakeholders at all levels
